KRISNA Cave
Imagine a beautiful cave system with underground lakes. An adventurous cave where you explore by hiking and partly by dinghy. Besides Postojna and Skocjan, the Krizna Jama is one of the most popular caves in Slovenia.
Underground lakes
The Krizna Jama are best known for the underground lakes you find in this cave system. Cruising over these lakes on a tour of dr caves is a very impressive experience.
The short tour
Due to the great popularity of the caves, short tours of up to 60 people are organised. You can book this tour on the spot.
On this tour, you walk through the caves and take a boat trip of about 15 minutes on the first lake.
Long tour
During the long tour, you go through the caves with up to 4 people and a guide. During this tour, which lasts 3.5 to 4 hours, you will make several trips by boat and go deeper into the caves.
Due to nature conservation, only 1,000 people a year can take this tour. To take this long tour of these caves, you need to book a guided tour in advance. Due to the popularity of this tour, the waiting list for the long tour of the caves can be as long as a year.
Tips for your cave visit
It is about 8 degrees Celsius in the cave all year round. So bring long trousers, a long-sleeved jacket and warm socks.
When participating in a tour, rubber boots and a torch will be provided if necessary. Hence the warm socks, for inside the boots!
It is advisable to be present at least 15 minutes before the start of your tour of the cave.
Krizna caves in the news
In January 2024, the caves were in the news. Due to rapidly rising water, a guide and three tourists had become trapped in the caves. They had to wait until the water subsided to be rescued. See https://nos.nl/l/2504081
Where is the Krizna Jama located?
The Krizna Jama literally means Cross Cave and is therefore also referred to as Cross Cave.
The caves can be found right below the capital Ljubljana, east of the town of Postojna.
