The Mostnica Gorge, located near Lake Bohinj in Slovenia, is a true paradise for nature lovers and hikers. Planning your visit

You can park on the edge of Stara Fuzina for €3 per hour (price 2024). You can also park halfway up the gorge. This is a more expensive option, further along the toll road (€20 in 2024), where you’ll find a smaller car park. This is clearly signposted at the parking area.

Tickets and prices for Mostnica gorge

You can buy an entrance ticket at the entrance to the gorge. There’s no need to book tickets in advance. The admission price depends on the season and your age. In high season (June to September) adults pay €4, children from 7 to 14 years €2 and seniors, students and pupils €2.50. Children under 6 go for free. The Bohinj Card gives you free entry.

Walking routes

You can opt for a short walk through the gorge (1–1.5 hours) or take a longer route to the Voje waterfall (3.5 hours). The trails are clearly signposted.

  • Narrow & Deep: In some spots the gorge is only one metre wide and provides a fascinating look at the power of water erosion.
  • Elephant Rock (Sloncekrots): This unique rock formation gets its name from its shape, which looks like an elephant dipping its trunk into the water.
  • No Swimming: The water in the gorge is refreshingly cold (10 degrees), but swimming or paddling is not allowed.
  • Voje Valley: After the gorge you can continue your walk to the picturesque Voje Valley, with lush meadows, lofty mountain peaks and the 21-metre Voje waterfall.
  • Mountain huts: Along the way you’ll come across cosy mountain huts where you can enjoy a bite to eat, a drink or even spend the night.

Enjoy the tranquillity: The Mostnica gorge is less well-known than the Vintgar Gorge, which makes for a more serene and authentic experience.

Suitable footwear is a must: The paths can be rocky and slippery, especially after rain.

Take enough water with you: There are limited options to buy drinks along the way.

Start early: The gorge can get busy, especially during the summer months.

Hiking boots required

Good footwear is mandatory for walking through the gorge. Hiking or mountain boots will give you grip on the rocky paths. Of course, pushchairs and walking frames are not allowed.

Dogs ALLOWED

Dogs are welcome to join you in the gorge, provided they are on a lead. Entering the water in Mostnica gorge is not permitted. This means no paddling for dogs either.
