Lake Bled
The most famous lake in Slovenia is Lake Bled. Some call Lake Bled ‘pure magic’. Surrounded by mountains, it offers a view that truly captures your heart. The little island with its church makes it a unique lake, unmistakable in any photo!
Swimming, Sunbathing, Enjoyment
Swim in the crystal-clear waters of the lake. Feel the warm sun on your skin. Relax on the shore. Or take a walk around the lake.

Bled Island: a unique discovery
Take a boat and head over to Bled Island. There you’ll find the Church of the Assumption of Mary, a marvel from the sixteenth century. The view from the island is breathtaking. And the boat trip itself is quite an experience.

Boating on the lake
Of course, you can visit the little island in the middle of the lake. For that, you can hire a rowing boat. Motorised vehicles are not allowed on Lake Bled. If you don’t fancy rowing yourself, you can also join a boat trip where you won’t need to row at all. The traditional ‘Pletna’ boat sails on the lake—a flat boat, just as the name suggests.
Bled Castle
Bled Castle is also perched beside the lake. You can’t miss it! It’s set on a rock, right by the lake. The view? Amazing. You can look out across the lake and the whole area. This castle is old—truly old. It dates back to the eleventh century. One of the oldest castles in Slovenia.

You can climb up to it. Just follow the steps from the path that circles the lake. It’s quite a climb, but well worth it. Not up for a hike? You can always drive up by car. (We only found this out after we’d already climbed up!) Inside the castle, too, there’s plenty to see. Rooms, halls, a museum. Want to learn more about its history? Book a tour. A guide will tell you all about what life was like in this castle.
