Cable car up the mountain

In winter, you can do great skiing in Slovenia. But in summer, the mountains also offer something: fantastic views. In several places in Slovenia, you can take a cable car up into the mountains. Which place is more beautiful? What does it cost? Where can you hike well? We figured it out for you.

Cable car ‘Vogel’ near Bohinj

This is a very popular cable car. In winter, this cable car takes you to the Vogel ski area. But also in summer, a ride up the cable car is quite an experience. From the cable car and from the mountain you have a beautiful view of the surroundings and Lake Bohinj.

At 1923 metres, Mount Vogel is one of the highest mountains in the area. The cable car takes you up to 1532 metres at ‘Brown Rock’. Here you are one kilometre higher than Lake Bohinj.

Things to do at cable car Vogel

On top of the mountain you will find the starting point of several beautiful hiking trails through the beautiful flora and fauna. These include hiking to alpine meadow Zadnji Vogel. Or discover the primeval forest of Lopata. The area is also home to archaeological sites from the Iron Age and travelling ant hills.

Want to go higher up? Then take a ride on the chairlift to 1682 metres altitude. Or even go paragliding from the mountain!

A ride up by cable car is not cheap. For a return trip, you pay €29.50.

Kanin cableway near BovEČ

Near the town of Boveč you will find the cable car to the Kanin ski resort. Unfortunately, from winter 2023 this cable car is closed. It is unknown if and when the cable car will reopen.

Cable car to Velika Planina

The Velika Planina cable car gives you the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful spots in the Slovenian mountains. Located just 3 km before the end of the valley, this cable car takes you on a beautiful journey to the Big Pasture Plateau, also known as Velika Planina.

Daily from 8am to 6pm, you can take the cable car up.

For a return ticket, you pay 24 euros per adult. For an extra 2 euros, you can take the chairlift further up the mountain at the top. For children and seniors and students there is a cheaper rate.

Dogs in the cable car

You can take your dog on the cable car. You buy a 5-euro ticket for your dog. Your dog must be clean, healthy and on a leash. A muzzle is also compulsory! A muzzle can also be rented. Read more about taking your dog to Slovenia.
