Shopping in Ljubljana
The centre of Ljubljana isn’t the place to go shopping. The city centre doesn’t have loads of shops like you find in the Netherlands. You’ll come across a few charming little boutiques, but for a true shopping experience you need to head elsewhere!
On the edge of the city, you’ll find several large shopping centres with the major retail chains. Where’s the best place to shop? We’ll show you!
ALEJA
One of the newest indoor shopping centres is in the north of Ljubljana: ALEJA. Here you’ll find shops like Adidas, H&M, Nespresso, S.Oliver and dozens of others. All together in a covered shopping centre.
BTC CITY
The largest shopping area is called BTC City. Here, you’ll find an indoor shopping centre called ‘citypark’. BTC City is a huge complex made up of several shopping centres, big shops and places to eat and drink. There are clothing shops here including Primark, New Yorker, Reserved, Sportina, C&A and Zara.
You’ll also find a gigantic Decathlon, DIY stores Bauhaus and Merkur, and Ljubljana’s IKEA here.
Popular shops in BTC CITY
- Citypark Shopping Centre. The biggest indoor shopping centre in BTC City. Shops here include Adidas, Primark, the Lego store, S.Oliver, New Yorker, Gap, Sportina and loads more.
- The flagship electronics shop BIG BANG is also in BTC (Slovenia’s answer to Mediamarkt)
- Large Zara, Bershka and C&A stores in the south of the site.
Fancy something to eat?
Don’t miss the food courts in BTC City. On the top floor of the CityPark shopping centre, you’ll find a variety of restaurants.
But maybe it’s even nicer to head to the open-air food court. There are all sorts of different styles of food, including Asian, Greek and BBQ. Fancy a poké bowl or a sausage? You’ll find it at the outdoor food court.
Shops are closed on Sundays
Shopping on a Sunday? In all of Slovenia you can only do that at a bakery or petrol station. All big shopping centres and shops are closed on Sundays. Even supermarkets shut on Sundays.
Sunday in Slovenia is a day to go out with your family. But not for shopping.
