Krizna Jama cave
Imagine: a stunning cave system with underground lakes. An adventurous cave where you explore on foot and partly by rubber boat. Alongside Postojna and Skocjan, Krizna Jama is one of the most popular caves in Slovenia.
Underground lakes
Krizna Jama is especially known for the underground lakes you will find in this cave system. It’s an extremely impressive experience to travel on these lakes during a tour through the caves.
The short tour
Due to the great popularity of the caves, short tours are organised for a maximum of 60 people. You can book this tour on site.
On this tour, you walk through the caves and take a boat ride of about 15 minutes on the first lake.
Long tour
On the long tour, you go through the caves with up to 4 people and a guide. During this tour, which lasts 3.5 to 4 hours, you make several boat trips and go deeper into the caves.
For nature conservation reasons, only 1,000 people a year can go on this tour. To take this extended tour through these caves, you need to book a guided tour in advance. Due to the popularity, the waiting list for the long cave tour can even reach a year.
Tips for your cave visit
It’s about 8 degrees Celsius in the cave all year round. So bring long trousers, a jacket with long sleeves and warm socks.
If you join a tour, rubber boots and a torch will be provided if needed. That’s why warm socks, for in the boots!
It’s advisable to be at least 15 minutes early for your cave tour.
Krizna caves in the news
The caves made the news in January 2024. Due to rapidly rising water, a guide and 3 tourists became trapped inside. They had to wait for the water level to drop before they could be rescued. See https://nos.nl/l/2504081
Where is Krizna Jama?
Krizna Jama literally means Cross Cave and is also referred to as Cross Cave.
