Žovnek Castle

On a hillside of the green Dobrovlje plateau you’ll find one of the oldest castles in Slovenia: Žovnek Castle. Since 1995, the ruin has been lovingly restored by volunteers. Many of the rooms have been returned to their original state. While it’s not a major attraction, it’s well worth visiting during a walk in the surroundings. The path to the castle gives you magnificent views of Lake Žovne and the wooded slopes of Dobrovlje plateau. You can even see the town of Celje.

Celje Castle

Celje Castle is the largest medieval castle in Slovenia. Walk in the footsteps of the Counts of Celje. Dating back to the 12th century, the castle offers a glimpse into life from long ago. Snežnik Castle is surrounded by vast forests. The castle offers an insight into aristocratic life in days gone by. Rajhenburg Castle (Brestanica)

Rajhenburg Castle stands on a high rock above the Brestanica stream and the Sava River. Built from 1131, it was initially a monastery. It was later used during the Second World War. Today, the castle hosts events. There are chapels and halls decorated with fine paintings. Here, you can also learn about the Trappist monks. Outside the castle is a garden full of herbs. The castle has its own shop with souvenirs and local products. At the castle cafe, you can have a drink with homemade cakes.
